Sony recalled the camcorders when they found out about this, but the night vision camcorders that they subsequently released,some people figured out how to modify the camera to get the see-through-clothing functionality  and hundreds of the modified cameras are for sale on the Internet.The camera with all the filters sells for about $700 brand new, and is easy to obtain.Sony said it has no responsibility for altered or modified products.A lot of people have used this technology for wrong purposes.

BitTorrent Wants To Be Hollywood’s New Best Friend

Torrenting, it's the tool of thieves and pirates, right? The evil protocol no honest person should ever dare touch? Not quite, but it's got that reputation with some, and it's trying hard to shake it. According to BitTorrent's executive director of marketing Matt Mason, they plan to take it all the way in the other direction and really get in deep with legal distribution next year.

Now before anyone gets upset, it's worth noting BitTorrent is already in the business of legal content distribution. It dabbled in operating a storefront back in 2008 and it's always been a great way to download huge pieces of open source software. This plan goes a bit farther than that though. As Mason told the New York Times, "We've been trying to groom the entertainment industry to think about BitTorrent as a partner."

And it makes sense, BitTorrent has a gigantic user-base, more than Hulu, Netflix, and Spotify combined, times two. And it's an efficient way to download large files, much better than pulling them from a single source. But are all those users there because BitTorrent is great, or because free (pirated) content abounds? BitTorrent is betting on the former.

According to Mason, these plans don't involve setting up any kind of store or anything. Instead, BitTorrent simply wants to reach out to rightsholders to offer itself up as a delivery mechanism, whether that will mean Torrentable downloads of extra goodies that come with a traditional purchase, or set top boxes that use the protocol to download and stream. BitTorrent's certainly got a bad rap considering its method is so efficient and its name is something of a dirty word. Whether this push can do anything to change that remains to be seen. Hopefully it can.

Samsung's SCH-W2013 is a quad-core, dual-screen flip phone, designed for Jackie ChanIt's been almost a year since the ridiculously expensive SCH-W999 launched on China Telecom, so it's about time for Samsung to come up with yet another dual-screen flip phone to lure folks with too much money. Launched in conjunction with a big charity concert (again) earlier today is the SCH-W2013, a 1.4GHz quad-core (likely an Exynos 4412) device with Android 4.0 and dual-3.7-inch 800 x 480 Super AMOLED touchscreens. On top of that there's 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, microSD expansion of up to 64GB, 1,850mAh of battery juice, an eight-megapixel main imager plus a whopping 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera. As with many flagship devices on China Telecom, the W2013 comes with dual-SIM support: one for CDMA2000 800/1900 and the other for GSM 900/1800/1900. The damage? Well, there's nothing official yet, but it's believed to be somewhere between ¥18,000 ($2,900) and ¥20,000 ($3,210). After all, it ain't cheap to hire Jackie Chan (and he was also given a W2013 at the concert).

HTC's latest big-screen beauty looks set for a UK launch

The trend towards larger smartphone screens looks to be continuing after more leaked shots of the purported UK-bound HTC Deluxe appeared online.

Those international phones, unveiled by HTC during the course of the last few weeks featured a 5-inch, full HD 1080p display.

The device also brought a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, an 8-megapixel camera, 2GB of RAM, 4G LTE mobile internet and the Android Jelly Bean (4.1) operating system out of the box.

The new, rather official-looking photos, obtained by GSM Arena, show a super sleek white handset and the presence of Beats Audio tech.

We've still heard nothing official from HTC about a potential UK launch, but we'll let you know if and when news is forthcoming. Regardless of HTC's plans for the 'Deluxe' we've got a feeling we'll be seeing quite a few 5-inch smartphones arriving in the early part of 2013.

The company's largest handset to date is the 4.7-inch HTC One X.

In a year or two, augmented reality (AR) headsets such as Google Glassmay double up as a virtual dieting pill. New research from the University of Tokyo shows that a very simple AR trick can reduce the amount that you eat by 10% — and yes, the same trick, used in the inverse, can be used to increase food consumption by 15%, too.

The AR trick is very simple: By donning the glasses, the University of Tokyo’s special software “seamlessly” scales up the size of your food. In the video below, you see a person picking up what seems to be an Oreo cookie, and then the software automatically scales it up to 1.5 times its natural size. Using a deformation algorithm, the person’s hand is manipulated so that the giant Oreo appears (somewhat) natural. In testing, this simple trick was enough to reduce the amount of food eaten by 10%.

Samsung wins US court order to access Apple-HTC deal details

A U.S. judge has ordered Apple Inc to disclose to rival Samsung Electronics details of a legal settlement the iPhone maker reached with Taiwan's HTC Corp, including terms of a 10-year patents licensing agreement.

The Korean electronics giant had earlier filed a motion a motion to compel its U.S. rival -- with whom it is waging a bitter legal battle over mobile patents across several countries -- to reveal details of the settlement that was reached on November 10 with HTC but which have been kept under wraps.

In August, the iPhone maker won a $1.05 billion verdict against Samsung after a U.S. jury found that certain Samsung gadgets violated Apple's software and design patents.

Now, legal experts say the question of which patents are covered by the Apple-HTC settlement, and licensing details, could be instrumental in Samsung's efforts to thwart Apple's subsequent quest for a permanent sales ban on its products.

The Asian company has argued it is "almost certain" that the HTC deal covers some of the same patents involved in its own litigation with Apple.

Worlds oldest Digital Computer turned back on after 61 years

The world’s oldest, original, still-working digital computer has been unveiled at the National Museum of Computing in Bletchley Park, the home of the United Kingdom’s Second World War encryption and codebreaking efforts, where, among other luminaries, Alan Turing and co famously broke the German Enigma cipher.

The computer, originally called Harwell but now called the Wolverhampton Instrument for Teaching Computing from Harwell (WITCH), was originally powered up in 1951 (pictured above). Between 1952 and 1957 the computer was used for early atomic research, and then it was given to Wolverhampton University, where it remained in operation until 1973. Between 1973 and 1997 it was on display at a museum in Birmingham, and then it disappeared into storage, only to be discovered by chance in 2009.

Dog-Like Robot launched By TOSHIBA

Japanese nuclear reactor maker Toshiba on Wednesday unveiled a remote-controlled robot resembling a headless dog that they hope will be used at the battered Fukushima power plant.

The tetrapod, which weighs 65 kilograms (143 pounds) and is about one metre (3 foot, four inches)

tall, is designed to be able to cover difficult terrain -- such as going up steep steps -- that regular robots struggle with.

The robot's triple-jointed legs are designed to give it maximum flexibility, with engineers saying it will be able to go into spaces where high radiation makes it impossible for workers to do so.

The robot can carry a load of 20 kilograms and is equipped with cameras and a radiation meter, expected to help workers decide which parts of buildings are safe to enter and for how long.

The machine can also carry a small wired vehicle equipped with a camera and send it out to crawl into small spaces to carry out inspections.

Can Sony Super Phone Beat iPhone 5 & Galaxy S III?

New superphone is rumored to be 5-inch, quad-core "Yuga"

Sony Corp. (TYO:6758) was rumored to be in the running to make the next Nexus phonefor Google Inc. (GOOG).  Instead the Nexus 4 contract was awarded to the Japanese firm's South Korean rival LG Electronics (KSC:066570) who offered up a 4.7-inch, quad-core powered design.

Undeterred Sony, according to a Phone Arena report, will be releasing an Android superphone of its own.  The phone is expected to be a large screen design dubbed "Yuga".  Some sources say the 1080p display will be 6-inches (making it more of a phone-cum-tablet than a pure phone); others expect it to be a 5-inch 1080p unit.

Most sources point to it packing a quad-core Snapdragon 4 chip from Qualcomm, Inc. (QCOM), possibly the APQ8064, paired with 2 GB of DRAM.  It is expected to run Android Jelly Bean v1 (4.1.1) out of the box, with an upgraded to the second major version of Jelly Bean (v2) on the horizon.

Samsung wants details of Apple's settlement with HTC

Samsung is showing its first public interest in the settlement that ended the legal fight between rival Apple and HTC this past week.

Samsung this afternoon filed a request with the court for Apple to provide a copy of its patent license agreement with HTC.

That deal, announced on Saturday, put an end to the bitter battle between the two companies, a conflict that's similar, but smaller in scale to the one between Apple and Samsung.

In its filing, Samsung says it wants to see what patents were covered as part of the agreement since there may be some overlap with the ones used in the case between it and Apple, including the '381 and '915 patents, which cover "bounce back" and scrolling and zooming, respectively.

"As you know, the issue of Apple's willingness to license its patents was briefed in Samsung's opposition to Apple's motion for permanent injunction," wrote Quinn Emanuel's Robert Becher, who is representing Samsung in the case. "This license has direct bearing on the question of irreparable harm and whether monetary remedies are adequate."

Becher added that the license could also shed light on whether Apple included some of its "unique" user experience patents, which it doesn't share with other companies. In a testimony about that collection, Apple patent licensing director Boris Teksler referred to that collection as "untouchables," that it only shared with a very small handful of other companies.

Upcomming Tech - Autonomous Cars

Today’s cars are packed with a variety of driver assistance aids. You can get most any car today with GPS, but luxury car makers such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Volvo provide a whole lot more. Options now include active cruise control, lane departure warning/intervention, traffic info and blind spot warning. These cars can even brake on their own to avoid hitting an obstacle or pedestrian in front of the vehicle.

A few years ago, DARPA ran its Grand Challenge, in which teams competed to race fully autonomous cars that drove themselves. They were tested in off-road, highway and urban settings. Some of these competitors later went to work for Google’s autonomous vehicle efforts.

In the future, we will have autonomous cars, where driver control will be optional. Even though the thought might seem scary, the cars will be safer than any car you’d pilot yourself. They will constantly evaluate their current environment with multiple sensors -- and they’ll never get distracted by text messages.

Will they be complex to operate? Not at all. Your PMC will act as a user interface to any device, including your autonomous car. It will know your schedule and address book, so when you get into your car one hour before an appointment, the car’s GPS will instantly display the destination address and arrival time. All you have to do is say, “Let’s go!”

Mozilla Will be Creating a OS based On Android

Mozilla, who are renowned for their successful internet browser, are entering the mobile race, developing a new web-centric OS that will directly compete with Google, Apple and Microsoft.

If the name Mozilla rings any bells it's because they're the tech boffins who put together Internet Explorer, the browser that Windows defaults to. Mozilla took the leviathan computing company on with its Firefox browser, and today it stands as the second most popular browser worldwide.

Now the company who was underdog to Microsoft looks to be playing the same role, but this time against internet mogul Google.

Announced on the Mozilla discussion forum, Mozilla have begun coding for phones and tablets. The BBC revealed the mobile operating system will draw on Android code, with Mozilla writing as much fresh code as possible. The hybrid-like operating system will be named Boot To Gecko. 

It is an unusual name for an OS, until you remember Gecko is the rendering engine employed by the Firefox browser that interprets web page coding and displays it in a screen-friendly format, a homage to its origins.

Even though Android coding will form the operating system's foundations, Mozilla hope to add a much more open wrapper around it than Google currently do, making it more versatile as an operating system.

Its shared foundations will also make Boot To Gecko compatible with the same phones as Android, competing as a direct alternative to Google.

Often, when you select a link from an application native to the Android or iOS market, the operating system will have to open a new webpage in the browser. Boot To Gecko aims to limit this by making applications much more web-centric.

If the venture proves successful, Mozilla will be waging war against industry giants, with Google, Apple and Microsoft dominating many facets of the technological world. 

Mozilla have acknowledged the project is in infancy and have chosen to make the development public in hope it will attract talented enthusiast coders who will contribute to the Boot To Gecko's cause.

According to their project team, all of the code development will be completed and shared with the public as soon as it is written.

Researcher Andreas Gal, who announced the development, admits the company has set a high target, but wants to do it "the way we think open source should be done.

Gal says his ultimate goal is to break "the stranglehold of proprietary technologies over the mobile device world," implicitly referring to the practices of Apple, Windows Phone and Google.

Windows 8 to get first 'critical' security update

Windows 8, available publicly for two weeks now, is getting its first security update Nov. 13. It includes three critical updates; Windows 8 RT, for Microsoft's Surface tablet, has one critical update.

The vulnerabilities could allow a hacker to execute malicious code remotely on systems that aren't protected. You can make sure you get the updates by setting your computer to automatically accept updates from Microsoft.

There will be other updates too, for other versions of Windows, including Windows 7, Vista and XP, as well as for Internet Explorer.

Meanwhile, security firm Bitdefender said Friday in its own testing that Windows 8, using Microsoft's own Windows Defender anti-malware protection, was "prone to infection" by 15 percent of the 100 malware "families most used by cyber criminals this year."

Read another way, that means Windows Defender — which is included as part of Windows — was 85 percent effective.

No anti-malware product, of course, is 100 percent effective because code, viruses, worms, Trojans and spam are shape-shifters in the hands of criminals or mischief-makers.

NBC News contacted Microsoft for comment about Bitdefender's study. "Microsoft is committed to providing a trustworthy computing experience and continues to invest heavily in continuously improving our security and protection technologies," a company spokesman said in an emailed statement.

Bitdefender said the malicious sample set it used "consisted of the families of malware detected most frequently in the past six months" by its own real-time virus reporting system

Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini to be launched on Nov 8

South Korean electronics manufacturer Samsung has announced it is launching its much awaited Galaxy SIII mini on 8 November. 

The compact version of the world's best-selling Android phone, the Galaxy SIII, will come with free games TheSims 3 and Bejeweled 2 .According TO the Telegraph Mini features a 4" screen compared to the regular SIII's 4.8" version.

It also offers a dual core processor rather than the quad core in the main model, the report said.

It will compete directly with Apple's new iPhone 5, which also has a 4" screen, it added.
